Glossy Eye Make-up

I fancied doing some creative make-up this week, so I thought I'd try a glossy colourful eye. I'd done a greasy, black look before for a photoshoot, but this is quite a different look.

I'm quite pleased with how it looks, and would love to try this out with a decent photographer!

I used my own special blend of 'eye gloss', which basically consists of Vaseline and clear lip gloss. I applied that over Sugarpill Dollipop and Hi-Fi Cosmetics Live Large. Under the eye is Sugarpill Poison Plum, and Barry M Dazzle Dust in 66 (matt black).

The key to the glossy coloured eye, if you're wanting it to look neat, and not really grungy, is to apply very carefully, taking care not to drag the eyeshadow. I used a cotton bud to pat and roll the gloss over the eye lid.

Let me know what you think!

EOTD: Bad Seed

Hi-Fi Cosmetics' Bad Seed is one of my all-time favourite eye shadows. I love golden, olivey greens, because they're so close to my eye colour, I find them really flattering.

I think this type of colour actually suits most people, give it a try! It's an easy way to wear green if you're a bit scared of colour.

I used:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Hi Fi Cosmetics Bad Seed
Geek Chic Cosmetics The Pointy End
Urban Decay Naked (brows)
Smashbox Limitless Liquid Liner Pen
Black Mascara

MAC Chocolate Brown Pigment: Possible Dupes?

I know how popular the MAC Pigments are, and while they are a fantastic product, I believe there are many other companies that make loose eyeshadows of comparable quality, at a much lower price. MAC Pigments currently retail on their UK website for £16.50 for 4.5g/0.15oz of product. I thought I would look through my collection to see if I could find a dupe, or anything very similar, to Chocolate Brown Pigment, which is one of my favourites. It's great to find a cheaper alternative whenever possible I think!

I picked out the closest things to it I could possibly find, but it wasn't as easy as you might think!

From L-R: MAC Chocolate Brown Pigment, HiFi Cosmetics Yuletide Carols, Barry M Dazzle Dust in 53 Chocolate, Sue Moxley brown from Famous palette.

As you can tell, they are sort of similar, but nothing quite matches it. I thought I would've found several dupes for it as I have a lot of browns, but these are the closest to it, and side by side they do not look alike.

Yuletide Carols is more bronze-toned, perhaps a more yellowish brown.

The Dazzle Dust has a much darker, blackened base, despite having a similar chocolatey brown shimmer.

The Sue Moxley colour is much more taupey when swatched, with more grey tones. It also has a chunkier texture, with less pigment.

So, sorry I couldn't find a match for MAC Chocolate Brown for you, but I hope that helps you if you were looking at any of these as a possible dupe.

EOTD: Morbid Faerie

Here's the look I wore yesterday. I wanted to play around with colours that have duochrome effects, or different colours in them. It gives a really nice effect I think, and makes the overall look seem a lot more complex. Hope you like it!

What I used:

Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy
Fyrinnae Rapunzel Had Extensions (lid)
Fyrinnae Darling Misfit (outer v and lower lashline)
Fyrinnae Faerie Glamour (crease)
Hi Fi Cosmetics Morbid Faith (between crease and browbone)
Fyrinnae Winter Again (inner corner)
Sleek Oh So Special palette matte cream (browbone)
Illamasqua Volume Mascara in Harness

EOTD: Fyrinnae Dressed To Kill

This an eye of the day I did using one of my favourite shadows of all time, Dressed to Kill. It's a beautiful olive-y green with loads of golden sparkles.

As a base I used Urban Decay 24/7 Liner Pencil in Stash, which closely matches the colour of the shadow. I often use this combination as I love it so much.

What I used:

Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Urban Decay 24/7 Liner Pencil in Stash
Fyrinnae Dressed to Kill (lid and lower lashline)
Hi Fi Shadow in Bad Seed - a gorgeous golden olive green (inner corner)
Sleek Curacao Palette - the dark olive green (crease)
Sleek Oh So Special Palette - matte cream colour (brow highlight)
Nyx Candy Glitter Liner in Tangerine (upper lashline)
Black mascara

Hope you like it!

EOTD: Misfit Screwdriver

Yay, I've finally had time and energy to do some makeup! The last few weeks have been really busy for me with tons of college work to be done, assessments in class, and long hours at work. So sorry the blog has been a bit quiet!

My hair is a mess and I'm not dressed yet, but oh well :p

Here's what I used:

Eyes

Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk
Shiro Cosmetics Yatta (inner corner)
Sleek Curacao palette - Screwdriver (yellow-lid), Green Iguana and Blue Hawaiian (outer lower lashline), Martini (browbone highlight)

FOTD: Living Dead Dragon

This is a look I wore last weekend when I went out for a friend's Hen party. I wanted to do something slightly 1920s inspired, so I went for a dark eye with green tones, which was darker at the inner eye area.

Sorry I look so miserable in the full face pic, I hate taking them haha! Anyway, here's what I used:

Eyes

Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil in Black Bean
Spellbound Cosmetics Dragon Scales
Hi Fi Cosmetics Living Dead Girl
MAC White Gold Pigment
Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Zero
Illamasqua Volume Mascara in Harness

Face

e.l.f. Flawless Finish Foundation in Porcelain
Illamasqua Powder Blusher in Sin

Lips

Collection 2000 CreamPuff Moisturising Lip Cream in Angel Delight

Dragon Scales is the main colour in this look, it's a MAC Club-esque brown/green duochrome which, as usual, looks awesome over a black base. For this look, rather than my usual smoky look with this type of colour, I brought more of the dark colours into the inner eye area, quite high up which reminds me of the silent movie stars. I hope you like it!

EOTD: Journey of a Dinosaur

Here's a look I did today with Fyrinnae's Dinosaur Plushie. As always, photos don't do this eyeshadow justice at all.

The crease colour is actually matte but looks shimmery since the Dinosaur Plushie sparkles got all over :)

What I used:

Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil in Cottage Cheese
Fyrinnae Dinosaur Plushie
HiFi Cosmetics Journey of a Gemini
Janet Colours Dust - not sure it has a name/shade number but it's a neon matte pinky purple.

In other news, I'm going to college soon to study a course on makeup, so hopefully I will be able to post about some of the things I have done on the course for you. I can't wait to get started, although of course I'm nervous at the same time.

Hope you are all well!

EOTD: It only hurts when I mauve!

Hello! Just a quick post to show you today's look and one from Saturday night. My skin is quite bad at the moment so full face shots are not looking great.

I just used Too Faced Shadow Insurance, MAC Pigment in Mauvement all over the lid, and Hi Fi Cosmetics My Pain in the crease/outer corner. I used Urban Decay Virgin as my brow and inner corner highlight. Then I used a tiny bit of elf brown cream liner on the upper lashline, and black mascara.

Sorry these pictures are a bit blurry, and the last one is horrible, but shows the makeup :p

I used:

Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk
Sleek Acid and Curacao palettes
Sugarpill Dollipop and Poison Plum.
HiFi Cosmetics Morbid Faith
Sleek Suede blusher.

Hope you like these looks!

Eyes of the Day - Banana Meerkat

This look was the result of wanting to use the neglected yellows in my collection like Fyrinnae Banana Mochi. It's a lovely soft shimmery yellow, something I don't often use, as I usually want either a proper gold, or a bold matte yellow. But I think it actually looks lovely!

I also used some other soft pretty colours for this look.

Hi Fi Cosmetics So What is a beautiful pale pink with blue shimmer, used on the lid.
Fyrinnae Meerkat in the outer corner.
A tiny bit of Hi Fi In Bloom between So What and Meerkat.

On the cheeks I have Evil Shades Blush in Gossamer. I can't tell you how much I love this blusher, it's beautiful. I've been looking for something with a strong blue duochrome for ages, and this definitely fits the bill. I'll hopefully get a more in depth post up about Evil Shades and the products I've tried from them :)

Galactic Eyes

For this look I was inspired by a picture I saved to my computer a long time ago (I'm sorry I don't know who the image belongs to!):

Eyes of the Day - Hell Frozen

Hi everyone! Just a quick EOTD for you. I used some Hi Fi shadows that I feel don't get enough love from me.

I like the eyeliner actually. It makes a change having liner on the waterline for me, as I usually think it makes my eyes look too small but it looked ok today.

Here's what I used:

Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Hi Fi Shadow in Hell Frozen (lid)
Hi Fi Shadow in My Pain (crease)
Hi Fi Shadow in Journey of a Gemini (inner corner)
Urban Decay Virgin (brow highlight)
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencil in Zero
Black mascara

Hope you like it!

Eyes of the Day - Dinosaur Plushie

So in my last Fyrinnae order I finally got Dinosaur Plushie! Everyone goes on about it, so I don't know why I've left it so long to let it join my collection. But I have it now, and it's true, photos do no justice to how sparkly and pretty it is.

Click photos to enlarge.

Products used:

Urban Decay Primer Potion
Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy
Fyrinnae Dinosaur Plushie
Hi Fi Cosmetics Dark Star Capricorn
Fyrinnae Daemon's Tail
Sleek Oh So Special Palette (matte cream and matte light brown)
Mascara

Hope you like the look!

FOTD: Fyrinnae Sennyo

This is the look I did on Friday night when I went out for a friend's birthday meal. It was really lovely and we had a great time. We went to a Chinese restaurant which I love, ordered a ton of yummy food and drank wine :) I did a look which was quick but I love the combo and my bf always complements it. Sennyo is one of my all-time favourite colours; it's bright but pretty, not to dark, not too blue, and goes with so many other eyeshadows.

I realise there is liner on my lashes, you couldn't tell from a normal distance :p

What I used:

Urban Decay Primer Potion
NYC Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk (inner corner)
Fyrinnae Sennyo - bright pinky purple (lid)
Hi Fi Cosmetics Rockstar Loose Eyeshadow in Top 40 - raspberry pink (crease)
Hi Fi Cosmetics Shadow in In Bloom - bubblegum pink (above crease & inner corner)
Beauty From The Earth Big Ego - deep purple (lower lashline)
Collection 2000 Glam Crystals Dazzling Gel Liner in Le Freak

Hi Fi's In Bloom reminds me of Sugarpill's Dollipop, except loose. I sometimes use it instead because it's easier to get off for me. Dollipop can sometimes stain my eyelids a bit. I love Hi Fi's shadows so much, they're so soft and blendable and the shades are mostly unique :) Hope you like this look!

P.S. I'm thinking of doing some more tutorials soon, maybe how to use glitter eyeliner, and how to wear bright coloured eyeshadow. Let me know if any of you are interested!

Eyes of the Day - Orange & Purple

Here's a look using some of my favourite shadows. I think it goes really well with green eyes.

What I used:

UDPP
Hi Fi Cosmetics shadow in Mind Manipulator (orange) - lid
Fyrinnae Sennyo (pink-purple) - crease
Fyrinnae Parental Advisory (darker more blue purple) - outer corner & lower lashline
Hi Fi Cosmetics So What (shimmery pink with blue duochrome) - to blend crease upwards.
BeautyUK Pearl Eyeliner in Purple Haze
Accessorize Glitter Eyeliner in Electric Pink

On a side note, the Accessorize eyeliner is running out so fast on me! The tube seems half empty and I've only used it 3-4 times. It's like the Dazzleglass of eyeliners. :( Pretty but disappears too soon.
