Catching Up

Hey all, sorry for the long gap in posting. I've just completed a big project for college so hopefully now I'll have a bit more time to spend on the blog.

Last Sunday we had some friends round to watch the Superbowl, which was really fun, but very tiring. I live in the UK so it finished around 3am for us! Of course I had to do a makeup look to match the event, so I did a red, white&blue look on my eyes:

The glitter spread around a lot but whatever. I still thought it looked cool. I used Sugarpill eyeshadows, with glitter from The Body Needs and Helen E pressed on top. I also did some face paint on my bf, but I won't show you that haha!

The other exciting thing to happen lately was winning a contest on Wendy's blog Turtle Beauty! Here's a pic of most of the goodies (there was even more but some stuff got passed on to friends or into my kit):

I'm hoping to swatch some of this stuff for you soon, but so far I'm loving it! I was so glad to get my hands on the Day 2 Night eyeshadow quad, it's so pretty. Let me know if there's anything you see here you want a review/swatches of. I also have a cream eyeshadow that's not pictured here, in Dawn.

Eyes of the Day - Curacao Palette

Hey everyone! Sorry for being MIA for a while, between having a stye, a cold and loads of work to do, the blogging got kinda pushed down my list of priorities. But I'm back now. I recently received the Sleek Curaçao palette which I really love and have enjoyed playing with very much. I especially love the bright turquoise and blue colours as they are shades which have been missing from my collection. The pigmentation of them is amazing. I previously only had the Acid Palette from Sleek which I love, but this one is more pigmented and easier to apply. So here is the look I did today using colours from the palette.

What I used:


Urban Decay Primer Potion
Sleek Curacao Palette Blue Hawaiian (bright matte turquoise) - lid
Sleek Curacao Palette Purple Haze (matte purple) - outer corner & crease, outer lower lashline
Sleek Curacao Palette Green Iguana (shimmery emerald green) - lower lashline
Sleek Curacao Palette Blue Lagoon (matte bright blue) - lower lashline
Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk - inner corner
Sleek Curacao Palette Martini (shimmery cream) - inner corner
Sleek Curacao Palette Espresso Martini (matte black) - upper lashline

HiFi Cosmetics Swatches

Since I have a gammy eye I thought it was probably best if I did swatches instead of an eye makeup look today. So I've swatched my collection of HiFi Shadows for you. All are shown over Fyrinnae's Pixie Epoxy. They are loose eyeshadows which come in a jar or as sample baggies. I'm not sure on prices as they are currently closed temporarily.

Greens blues, and a yellow.

Sunlight. Other Side isn't as blue as it looks here, and Lithium is lighter in real life.

Indoor lighting.

Morbid Faith isn't showing up as beautiful as it really is in these photos, but the aqua coloured shimmer in it is really beautiful. A good blue for people who shy away from blues (me!)

Reds, browns, pink & orange.

Sunlight.

Indoor lighting. Colours are all truer in this swatch, particularly Live Large. Hell Frozen refused to show itself properly. In reality it's a cool brown with bluish silvery shimmer. Extremely beautiful. My Pain is also really gorgeous, an almost metallic red/plummy brown.


My favourites: Live Large, Morbid Faith, Mind Manipulator, My Pain and Hell Frozen.

I think these are my favourite loose eyeshadows alongside Fyrinnae's. They have some gorgeous bright colours and they're all really complex and unique. Some shades look a little uninspiring dry but come to life when foiled (used wet) or over Pixie Epoxy, particularly Live Large. Definitely check them out once the store reopens! Fyrinnae Swatches Part 3: Blues Greens & Golds

Here's the final installment of my Fyrinnae swatches, featuring the greens, blues golds and yellows I own from them. Fyrinnae make some of the prettiest green eyeshadows ever, they are so beautiful and unique. Just to note that the company isn't taking orders at the moment, and they often have a rather long order processing time. Despite this, I still whole-heartedly recommend them, it's really worth the wait. 

All the swatches are as usual, shown over Pixie Epoxy. This helps sparkles to stick, and colours to show up their richness and complexity so much better.

Notes: To me, Sea Turtle looks greener than it appears here. To my eye it is a soft grey-green. Pixie Epoxy makes the lilac shimmer show up more, turning it the shade it appears here.
Leif looks brighter to my eye, it's really a true grass green.
Adam & Steve's is a little more turquoise to my eye than it looks here.

Notes: I think the second photos shows the colours pretty accurately. Lights of Kyoto and Winter, Again are quite similar, except Lights of Kyoto has a sheer base and larger sparkles, whereas Winter, Again has a soft pale blue base.


My favourites of these shadows are Omgwtf, Dokkalfar, Biker Chic, Dressed to Kill, Dragonskin and Adam & Steve's. I think Dokkalfar Dragonskin and Dressed to Kill work really well together for green smoky eyes, especially when used over Urban Decay's 24/7 liner in Stash. I love those olive-y greens on myself.
