Shiro Cosmetics Kawaiishadow Collection

Just a quick review and swatches of something I received recently today. A while ago I made my first order from Shiro Cosmetics, and part of that included the Kawaiishadow set of eyeshadows.

The shadows come as a collection of all five pastel shades of eyeshadows, wrapped beautifully, with a couple of Japanese sweets thrown in. You can see on the website how they are presented.They would definitely make a great present to someone, and you can tell a lot of thought and love went into the wrapping and design of the items.

The jars all have stickers on top with kawaii little faces on, which coordinate with the colour of the shadow inside. One thing I would say about the packaging is that because the stickers are paper rather than shiny plastic-y labels, they might get stained with products, or if you get them wet the ink may run.

Onto the swatches

They were swatched dry over Too Faced Shadow Insurance. Sorry about the goosebumps, I had to go into my cold bathroom to photograph!

The shadows themselves are nicely pigmented, especially for paler shades, which I often find to be more sheer. The pink one (Kawaii) doesn't look as good as the others, but I think that's just because it's quite close to my skin colour. The shimmer in them isn't too much, but makes sure they are easy to apply and blendable.

I think they would work really well as inner corner colours as part of a bright eyeshadow look and I can't wait to use them over Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk!

I think the main issue people might have with these is that you have to buy the full set off full-sized eyeshadows. The current price on the website is $28 for 5 2 gram jars of shadow, which is really good, but could put people off if they only want one, or just want to try them out. But overall I think this is a lovely product which is really well thought-out and professional.

Rainbow Eyes!

Hello everyone! Today I felt like playing with make-up so I attempted my own version of a rainbow eye. I know it's similar to things I have done in the past but this is my first time doing a true rainbow on the eye.

I photographed it without mascara or any black/grey first because I like how bright and 'clean' it looked, but the lashes do look a bit weird with all that fallout on haha.

In the last picture the lower lashline looks really unblended but it didn't look that bad in real life I swear!

Sleek Acid Look

Last night I wanted to use my Sleek Acid palette again, I love it :) I just basically copied xSparkage's look since she made it look so cool, but it's very similar to what I normally do with it. I skipped the black though since I wanted it to be mega bright. I also just got the Nyx Eyeshadow Pencil in Milk so I was excited to try that out. I'm suitably pleased with it :)

It would have probably looked better with false eyelashes I think, but they look weird on me :s So my eyelashes look a bit pants but never mind, I love this look.

Eyes of the Day - Everyday Neutral

Hey everyone, this is just a quick simple look I did a few days ago. I noticed a lot of people liked the Mac post so this look incorporates some of the few Mac shadows I own. This is one of my fave combos for when I want to look made-up but quite natural. It's the sort of thing I would wear to an interview or something.

 I tried to edit the colour balance to show the colours as they truly are, but it still turned out more purple than they really are.

I used:

MAC Embark - along upper lashline

How To: Easy Smoky Eye

A couple of my friends told me they wanted to see tutorials showing how to do certain looks and techniques, so the first one I'm attempting is a simple rocker chick smoky eye. It only involves four items of makeup which I think most people own. I used two makeup brushes to do this; a flat eyeshadow brush and a fluffy blending brush, however you could do it with fingers or a cotton bud.

The first step is to prime your eyelid. This is important to stop the eyeshadow from creasing and makes colours look bolder. I use Urban Decay's Primer Potion, however there are others you can use, like Too Faced's Shadow Insurance or MAC Paint Pots. I personally find the Paint Pots crease on me though. These products are on the expensive side, however I find they last me a long time and are invaluable for making my eyeshadow stay on and look how I want. 

Spread a small amount of the primer over the eyelid from lashes to the browbone, and under the lower lashline.

Next, you will need a soft eyeliner pencil that you can smudge easily, or a dark cream eyeshadow or gel eyeliner. Something dark you can smudge around your eye. Put this onto the lid, keeping mostly near the lashline, and a little along the lower lashline. It doesn't need to be neat at this stage. You can use black, I'm using a dark brown as it's less harsh looking.

Now, blend the liner to soften it. You can use your finger or a stiff brush. Remove any stray smudges that get on your cheek or browbone with a wipe if necessary. 

Next you will need a dark eyeshadow to set the liner. You can use whatever you like here really, you can pick something to complement your eye colour or keep it monochromatic. I'm using Hustle from Urban Decay's Naked palette, which is a dark plummy brown. If you like you can use a fluffy brush to blend out any harsh lines.

Just add mascara and you're done!
